02 / EDITORIAL INDEPENDENCE

A project can offer real benefits and still have unresolved costs.

Our job is to report both. Findings follow the available evidence—not a predetermined position, client preference, or public reaction.

01

No purchased conclusions

No sponsor, client, source, official, developer, utility, or advocacy organization may buy a favorable conclusion, confidence rating, omission, or editorial position.

02

Factual review is limited

A stakeholder may review factual descriptions of its own statements or records. It may not rewrite independent analysis or suppress material limitations.

03

Responses are represented fairly

Relevant responses received before publication are included fairly. Later responses are considered through the documented update process.

04

Evidence outranks pressure

Political popularity, commercial pressure, and social-media reaction do not determine factual conclusions.

STAKEHOLDER FAIRNESS

A fair opportunity to correct the record.

Organizations materially criticized in a planned publication should receive a reasonable opportunity to provide factual corrections or relevant records when time permits.

  • A lack of response is reported as such—not treated as agreement.
  • Every response is evaluated under the same evidence standard.
  • Anonymous information may guide research but cannot independently support a material claim.
  • Confidential sources are protected consistent with applicable law and the commitments made to them.
